3 Great Beauty Buys

by Deborah on February 10th, 2008

Let’s face it. Looking good doesn’t come cheap. Visit any cosmetic counter and what do you see? Miniscule tubes of moisturizer for $50 or mascaras for $30! I’m here to tell you there are some great beauty bargains at drugstores and supermarkets. Just because the trend is for the high end, doesn’t mean there aren’t some good budget beauty buys out there.  all the products featured here today can be found in chains such as Wal Mart, Rite Aid, CVS and many large supermarket chains.

Biore Shine Control Moisturizer $6

1. Biore Shine Control Moisturizer - The women who did my makeup for my wedding swore by Biore products. She said they were affordable but produced great results. I use them too now and she’s right.

L'Oreal Bare Naturale General Mineral Makeup

2. L’Oreal Bare Naturale Gentle Mineral Makeup  - With brands such as Bare Minerals selling for $40 or $50 a pop, I can appreciate L’Oreal’s $15 version. I like mineral foundation much more than a liquid foundation because it’s not greasy and heavy. This is a wonderful, affordable solution.

Maybelline Great Lash

3. Maybelline Great Lash Mascara - At $5 a pop, it’s still the best bang for your buck. With all the expensive brands out there, this is the one the beauty people to the stars use. I’ve been using it since high school (and trust me, that was some time ago) because it’s hypo allergenic and inexpensive.

I HATE this mascara with a passion. I have been trying it since high school (not thaaat long ago) and no matter what formulation, it has just NEVER worked for me. It flakes. Off. Even the waterproof. Makes me look like I haven’t slept, or am just kind of grubby. It’s funny because I know this mascara is so widely touted as the default mascara - but for me, it has always sucked, and pretty badly too. I have tried black, brown, blackish brown… waterproof, non-waterproof…. doesn’t seem to make a difference, it just does not agree with my chemistry!

I recently purchased the mineral makeup that E.L.F. sells and compared it to the i.d. stuff I have and it’s actually really good. Even less than the L’Oreal stuff. ;)
