5 Products to Help Remove Callouses and Keep Your Feet Smooth

by Deborah on March 15th, 2008

I have bad feet, we talked about it here before. The bottoms of my feet are so calloused and cracked they’re like sandpaper. Plus, the callous is so thick I could walk on thorns and not feel it. Lately I’ve been doing what I can to remove the callouses and found several interested products to help smooth my feet and make me feel a little more feminine. Here’s a sampling.

pumice stone 1. Pumice Stone - A pumice stone is an abrasive, porous stone used to exfoliate feet, elbows and other dry problem areas. While it was quite helpful with my elbows, it didn’t do much to penetrate the cement-like callous at the bottom of my feet.

loofah 2. Loofah - A loofah is a soft exfoliating sponge made out of natural materials. Like the aforementioned pumice, the loofah is wonderful for light exfoliation. I use the loofah all over my body, but unfortunately, it does nothing for my sandpaper feet.

3. Foot file - Now these work. They don’t just do light exfoliation, they really, truly scrub calluses off feet. It’s sort of like a nail file, or sandpaper on a handle. It takes a long time to file these suckers, however.

4. Callous Razor - This is probably my favorite product for callous removal. You’ve probably seen these when you’ve had your summertime pedi. They’re razors with real blades that trim the callouses off the bottom of your feet. Unfortunately, things can get slippery in the shower. Find one with a no slip grip or prepare for a transfusion. Trust me. I know.

5.Ped Egg Ped Egg - I received the Ped Egg to review for this site and I was skeptical. The Ped Egg is a great product for lightly calloused feet. If you’ll excuse the visual, it’s like rubbing a fine cheese grater across the bottom of the feet. If your feet are heavily calloused like mine, it will take a while to get your feet back to their original, baby-smooth state. But lightly calloused feet will love them!
