5 Tips for Making Your Eyes Look Bigger

by Deborah on February 13th, 2008

My eyes always need a little something to help them stand out. As someone with a fair complexion plus brown hair and brown eyes, I can use all the help I can get in making my features stand out. Try some of these tips for making the eyes look bigger:

  1. Use mascara on both the bottom and top lashes. There are two essential makeup items I won’t do without - lipstick and mascara. Especially mascara! Using it on both the bottom and top lashes make my eyes open a bit and stand out more.
  2. Try individual false eyelashes for a more dramatic look.
  3. Line the top lid with liner and the bottom lid with a shimmery powder. To use dark liner on both the top and bottom lids will make eyes appear smaller.
  4. Watch this great video offering tips for making your eyes look bigger.
  5. Use an eyelash curler for longer looking, fuller lashes.

Here’s something I’m an expert in (as long as they’re my eyes!)

I have blonde hair and blue/grey eyes and I have curly long light brown lashes. What works for me:
I use a mascara with itsy bitsy teeth (like Maybelline Lash Discovery or similar) only on the bottom lashes. The formula is really light yet covers and the brush is just perfect for lower lashes. I use an angled flat brush (not bushy very flat) and run it across dark brown or black or very deep purple powder shadow. Start at the outer upper eyelash line and trace the upper eyelid lashline with the angled brush, drawing a soft line from outside to inside (but not all the way). Keep it really close for a more defined line, smudge it with the brush for a smokier eye. Nothing below the lower lashes, keep it clean. The eyes will pop and if you’re older you’ll get ten years back. Takes one minute and makes a huge difference. Trust me!

Oops, forgot to say: then add lengthening mascara to upper lashes! Duh! I use Lancome Definicils, which I always go back to. When you touch your lashes after you’ve applied mascara they are soft to the touch. But there are a few others I like to. Take a trip to Sephora.com if you can’t go to the candy store itself:)
