5 Tips for Preventing Adult Acne

by Deborah on April 15th, 2008

prevent acne

Acne hits at any age. Trust me, I know. At the age of 43 I still have my eruptions. Fortunately they’re not as bad as when I was in my teens but if I’m stressed or overindulge, my face usually tells the story. Now, acne can’t be prevented entirely in many cases, but there are things you can do to keep from breaking out.

  1. To avoid getting your hair’s oils on your face, pull your hair back when you turn in for the evening.
  2. Wash all traces of makeup off before you retire for the evening.
  3. Wash your pillowcase at least once a week to prevent your bodies oils from getting into your pores.
  4. Always use a clean cloth or poof to wash and dry your face.
  5. Drink plenty of water.

I have two more for you Deb because, unfortunately, this is an issue I sometimes have to deal with.

#6 - Keep your hands away from your face! While I’m at the computer, if I’m not typing my hands are up by my face too much. This, of course, gets all kinds of oil and gunk from the keyboard onto my skin. Not cool at all.

#7 - Limit your use of turtlenecks. Although I love them, I’m thrilled that summer’s almost here. Because during the winter, wearing a turtleneck can rub some of my makeup off. Then as the day wears on, that makeup ends up rubbing onto my jawline, creating breakouts. Also not cool.

Yanno, it is soooo not fair to be getting wrinkles and zits at the same time!!! Ugh.

    Thanks for the list. :)

#8 - Wear sunblock. If your skin gets damaged from the skin, it will need to be sloughed off and the process may clog your pores. Wear a facial sunblock. Neutrogena makes a great dry-touch SPF 55 facial sunblock.
