5 Ways to Reuse or Recycle Old Makeup
I have a bathroom drawer filled with makeup. My favorites are kept in a cosmetic bag so they’re easy to find. The ones I don’t use anymore are taking up space. The thing is, I feel bad throwing them away. Not only is it a waste, but empty makeup containers lead to landfill. What’s an environmentally-conscious makeup maven to do?
Here are some suggestions for re-using and recycling full and empty makeup containers.
- MAC cosmetics has a “Back to MAC” campaign. Bring in 6 empty MAC makeup containers and get a free lipstick in return.
- Use old makeup for kids costumes and art projects.
- Contractors can use lipsticks or eyeliner pencils to mark wood and drywall.
- Contact your drugstore to see if they have a lipstick container recycling program. Many places selling cosmetics also have programs in place to take away the empties.
- Contact your local recycle center to see if they accept empty makeup containers.
